Construction starts on fiber internet project in Joplin | Local News | koamnewsnow.com

JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) - Construction is now underway on a multi-million dollar project aimed at providing high-quality fiber optic internet to Joplin.

In April, 2024, the Joplin City Council approved to enter a Development Agreement with ALLO Missouri, LLC for an amount not to exceed $5 million.

ALLO announced that construction started on Monday. The fiber-optic route will be installed with the help of contractors who will install underground ductwork. You can keep track of progress and which sections are under construction on ALLO's updated map here.

As crews lay the fiber, the company states it will give advance notice of any necessary work in yards and easements to residents and businesses online and through the mail. Expected construction process, according to ALLO:

ALLO will host a groundbreaking ceremony along with the Joplin mayor and city officials on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. It will take place at Route 66 Mural Park at 619 Main Street.
