The advisory was caused by a power surge at the nearby water treatment plant
A power surge during a storm caused the water treatment plant on the East Bank of Jefferson Parish to drop water pressure, causing a boil water advisory.
Jefferson Parish Councilman Scott Walker says the storm that caused the outage was a one off and that it shouldn't concern people if a larger storm comes.
"As far as our end, yesterday was isolated. It was because of the storm. No one should think that if another if event comes through here like a Hurricane or something like that, that the parish systems are not prepared, because we learned a lot from Hurricane Ida. Generator power has been increased and redundancy has been increased. So, this was just, the way I understand it, an anomaly the way the power surge just happened and knocked the generator off-line," Walker said.As the boil water advisory continued on the East Bank of Jefferson Parish on Friday, multiple businesses worked to make sure they could provide services.
One of those was Metairie Ridge Presbyterian Day Care who kept kids inside and used paper plates to avoid using water on dishes.
"And yeah, it definitely created, especially for my executive director Irene, a bit of a headache this morning to try and get those things from CVS or something like that," said David Watson, who is the church's pastor.
At Walk-On's in Metairie they had to bring in bottled water, ice and boil large amounts of water to keep their business open.
"Its definitely more time consuming. Especially since we want everyone to be very comfortable when they’re coming to dine in and eat here. Especially just since it's a challenge at home. I’m sure they don't want to wash dishes and all of that. So, it is very time consuming. But us just working together as a team has definitely made a huge difference," said Crista Molina, the manager there.
