Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Burns Rubber In Wild Police Chase

A suspect driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk in Miami-Dade, Florida learned a hard lesson about horsepower: Just because your vehicle makes a lot of it, allowing you to roast your tires with glee doesn’t mean you can also roast cops.

The 30-year-old driver was allegedly spotted driving with a temporary tag on the highway. We don’t know up front if the tag was fake or expired or if the driver committed a moving offense, but Florida Highway Patrol tried pulling him over and he took off instead.

That triggered a pursuit through the area with troopers and other law enforcement agencies jumping in.

You can see in the included dashcam footage of the end of the chase how the high-powered Mopar gets off the highway as the driver starts doing burnouts and donuts, kicking up huge plumes of tire smoke.

He keeps doing that as a trooper gets super close, almost getting pitted out in the process. Instead, the guy then tried going off-roading, driving on the grassy shoulder. He apparently didn’t understand he was in a Trackhawk, not a Trailhawk.

After spinning the Jeep sideways and almost hitting a wall, the guy seems to just suddenly give up. Maybe he realized he was going to kill himself or someone else? That’s not explained, but it’s obvious the guy’s strategy of just spinning the rear tires didn’t work out so great – go figure.

Cops took him at gunpoint, arresting the guy. They reportedly found he was armed and had no driver’s license. What’s more, the vehicle wasn’t registered, so we’re guessing that temporary paper tag was fake, triggering the original traffic stop attempt.

Now the guy gets to deal with additional charges which include fleeing and eluding, making a bad situation even worse. It’s always best to just pull over and deal with whatever cops are going to charge you with than to run and get even more charges, possibly a felony or two.
