Building futures: Monroe County unveils new training center for construction careers

Oct 16, 2024

Rochester, N.Y.— A new space will help build bright and productive futures in the Rochester area.

Monroe County cut the ribbon Tuesday on the new building for the Multi-Craft Apprenticeship Preparation Program, also known as M.A.P.P.

The facility, located on Central Avenue in Rochester, will provide a host of career opportunities, all under one roof.

"We go through everything from painting, to electrical work, carpentry, pipe fitting— we do it all," said Kereem Berry, M.A.P.P.'s executive director. "Just to give you a broad brush and see what you like, what you don't like. A lot of people want to be electricians until they find out what it really takes, and some of the hazards of it, and then they decide they prefer masonry instead."

M.A.P.P. is dedicated to help historically disadvantaged people with the employment process in building and construction trades.
